This cache is located close to Frimley Green recreation ground, which was created after the 1st World War from land owned by the Hall family of Middle Farm, (now Elmcroft). As Frimley Green FC expanded, the Rec. also grew, from a small field backing onto Beresford Cl & Nursery Cl, to a popular local amenity that now adjoins the woods by the cache site.
Visiting fairs used to be held in the Rec. and on V.E. Day a large bonfire was built on the crest of the hill. Although only 300ft high, the view from the top of the hill (50m SW of the cache) is surprisingly good and well worth a visit.
The view has clearly changed a lot over the years....the 1841 census shows that apart from 2 cobblers, 2 broom makers, a builder, a butcher and a grocer, all other Frimley Green residents were farm workers. Now the spot is an good vantage point for the Farnborough Airshow and a popular spot for tabogganing in the winter.
For a nice walk, start in the car-park on Frimley Green Rd. (open during daylight hours ONLY). There are toilets here and you can take in the view on the way to the cache. Alternately, night-cachers can start in Calshot Way or Sandringham Way.
Congratulations to Figures for the FTF on the original cache. Congratulations to MMMCryptic for the FTF on the sneakier cache.
