Po druhé svetové válce se celé území vsi Sv. Tomáš vcetne hrad se stal vojenského hranicního pásma, kam byl vstup prísne zakázán. V padesátých letech si vojáci zrídili na vrcholu veže rozhlednou. Krome zámku, který byl ve správe a užívání Ceskoslovenské lidové armády, která byla postavena nová ocelová konstrukce veže - vež, a dum pro svou cinnost. Zástupci armády predali obci v roce 1990, Hrádek do vlastnictví obce Prední Výton. Až do letošního roku, zrícenina hradu byla prakticky neprístupná verejnosti. Hrádek Hrádek sloužil jako inspirace pro historický román Adalberta Stiftera "Vítek" (Vítek - 1865). Beware of the moose!!?!
