The Post Office Park in Vác is a small park of nice atmosphere in downtown Vác. The building of the post office was built according to the plans of János Schulek in 1924. In 1930 a small park was set up on the square facing the post office; this became the Post Office Park.
The greatest spectacle of my childhood was the small fountain in the park, composed of three brass frogs sitting in a stone plate, near the sycamore-shaded playground.
In 1984 a statue made by sculptor Imre Varga, titled ’Lenin stepped out on the gate of Smolniy’ was erected in the park. According to the official guidebook, it stood in ’an area of nice architecture and horticulture.’
In 1997, on the place of the former Lenin-statue, a Second World War monument was erected according to the plans of Miklós Melocco. This year this monument was extended with memorial columns, listing the names of heroes and innocent victims, who lost their lives during the war.
In 2003 the DDC Co. has nicely reconstructed the park, thus it has again become as it was: a small playground of charming atmosphere, being in the shade of sycamore trees, with pebbled walkways, with grass, benches and numerous trees and bushes planted around.
A váci Postapark egy kellemes hangulatú kis park Vác belvárosában. A Posta 1924-ben épült Schulek János tervei alapján. 1930-ban parkosították az elötte lévö teret, ez lett a Postapark.
Gyermekkorom legnagyobb látványossága egy kötányérban elhelyezkedö, három békából álló kis szökökút volt a parkban, amelyböl inni lehetett a platánfák árnyékolta játszótér mellett. A békákat egy ideje következetesen ellopják, a kút tányérja egyelöre a helyén van.
1984-ben Lenin kilépett a Szmolnij kapuján, a Postaparkban – Varga Imre szobrászmuvész alkotásaként, amely „kertészetileg és építészetileg szépen kialakított térben” állt.
Lenin helyén 1997-ben Melocco Miklós második világháborús emlékmuve jelent meg.
Idén ez a szobor kiegészítést nyert a második világháborúban életüket vesztett ártatlan áldozatok és hösök neveit tartalmazó emlékoszlopokkal.
A Duna-Dráva Cement Kft 2003-ban a Postaparkot szépen felújította, így maradt, ami volt: egy platánok alatti kis játszótér, virágokkal, cserjékkel, fákkal beültetett, kavicsos sétáló utakkal és padokkal szegélyezett hangulatos városi park.
