Geocache Description:

Dul Svornost / The Svornost pit

CZE:

K tomu úcelu byly v roce 1924 zatopené prostory dolu vycerpány, celý dul zrekonstruován a rovnež byly vybudovány základní technické objekty pro jímání a cerpání vody z uvedeného pramene (pramen Curie).

pramen Curie 30 l/min 29 °C obsah radonu 5 kBq/l
pramen C1 30 l/min 29 °C obsah radonu 11 kBq/l
pramen Behounek 300 l/min 36 °C obsah radonu 10 kBq/l
pramen Agricola 10 l/min 29 °C obsah radonu 20 kBq/l

Eng:

The Svornost pit, established almost in the same time as the town itself (in 1518), bears its present name, meaning concord (Einigkeit in German), since 1530. Thus it is the oldest mining pit still in operation not only in Czech Republic but perhaps also in the entire Europe.
In the course of 16th century the Svornost pit was used for silver mining. Since the middle of the nineteenth century uranium ore mining became the main resource being mined here. The boom of uranium mining started after 1945 and lasted until 1962 when, due to the depletion of the uranium deposits, the mining activities were gradually terminated. In the beginning of 20th century it was discovered that some of the water springs collected deep underground show a high radon content and that they have a positive effect on healing wounds and can improve certain medical conditions. Based on this founding first radon spa-house was established in 1906. However the capacity of the Springs became insufficient by the twenties of last century. A decision was made to use the powerful spring of the radon water hit in 1864 while deepening in the Svornost pit from the 12th to the 14th floor, which flooded the Svornost pit from the 12th floor up to the Daniel floor. For this purpose, in 1924, the flooded premises of the pit were drained, the entire pit was restored and the basic technical objects for collecting and pumping the water were installed (Curie Spring).
In 60s was decided that the Svornost mine, shall be used for collecting and drawing radon water even after the termination of the mining activity. At the same time an extensive geologic survey was made discovering another two springs of the radon water on the 12th floor of the Svornost pit, the C1 Spring in 1960 and the Behounek Spring in 1962. The Svornost pit was transferred to the Jáchymov State Spas organisation on 1st April 1964 after all the support works and surveys were finished. In year 2000 a new spring, called Agricola, was drilled. Recently there are 4 springs being used on the 12th floor of the Svornost mine in the depth of 500 meters under the surface. They are as follows:

Curie Spring 30 l/min 29 °C radon content 5 kBq/l
C1 Spring 30 l/min 29 °C radon content 11 kBq/l
Behounek Spring 300 l/min 36 °C radon content 10 kBq/l
Agricola Spring 10 l/min 29 °C radon content 20 kBq/l

The Svornost pit was and still is a very extensive work. Today, it uses only a small part. Others are flooded with water. It is estimated that splashes down to 1.5 million cubic meters of water (it is 800 swimming pools). Radon water is old up to 35 thousand years.

Hydrogeology:
Hydrogeology of the Jáchymov ore district is characterized by the presence of the following two systems of waters: descending water and ascendant water. The descending water is bound to fractures and has a lime-sulphate composition. Its composition evolved during transport along veins and fractures, including often portions with pyrite. In difference to this, ascendant water has a composition influenced by the underlying granitoids.
It has a temperature near 30 °C and pressure between 1.9 and 4.0 MPa. The waters derived from granitoids have an increased radioactivity which led to their curative utilization.
During the first part of the sixtees, thick walls were built across all adits connecting with the Rovnost and Bratrství mines and the neighbouring mining fields were flooded. These activities did not influence the discharge capacity of springs with radioactive water or their chemical composition.

Mine is in consultation with the management of the mine open to the public and everyone can descent 500 meters under the ground and pass the 12th floor.(Only for spa guests!)

You must accomplish this tasks:
1. Make a picture of yourself or your GPS with mine feeder (Foto - Foto Spoiler) - optional
2. Take a measurements of perimeter of the biggest matrix whitch is fixing mine tower (Foto - Measuring Spoiler)
3. what level of the pit contains springs like CURIE, Behounek and C1
