Kto by nepoznal uhlie… Uhlie stálo na pociatku priemyselnej
revolúcie a stále je velmi dôležitým fosílnym palivom. Uhlie
je horlavá, cierna alebo hnedocierna usadená hornina, ktorá sa
obvykle vyskytuje vo forme vrstiev alebo žíl, ktoré sú
nazývané uholné sloje. Uhlie vzniklo z vrstiev odumretých rastlín,
chránených pred biologickým rozkladom kyslou vodou, ktoré boli
následne prekryté vrstvou bahna, ktoré zabránilo oxidácii.
Postupným uholnatením vznikla následne rašelina lignit,
hnedé uhlie, cierne uhlie a antracit.
História tažby uhlia v okolí Handlovej siaha až do18.
storocia. Vtedy tu bolo nájdených niekolko vyústení z hnedouholnej
sloje. Tažbu zahájil gróf Ján Pálffy v roku 1857. Do
dnešných dní tu v tažbe pokracujú Hornonitrianske bane
Prievidza.
Cache Ta zavedie k jednému z východov z uholnej sloje v blízkosti
Handlovej. Môžeš tu nájst uhlie v jeho prirodzenej
podobe tak, ako ho nachádzali prospektori pred dvesto pätdesiatimi
rokmi. Miesto je jedným z trinástich zastavení Náucného banského
chodníka. Chodník, ktorého celková dlžka je cca 9,5 km, Ta
prevedie po zaujímavých miestach, spojených s históriou tažby
uhlia v okolí Handlovej. Na odlovenie krabicky nie je nutné
absolvovat celý chodník, stací toto jedno zastavenie. Napriek tomu
Ti však túto poucnú prechádzku vrelo odporúcame.

Coal… Everybody knows it. Coal stood on the beginning of the
industrial revolution and still it is very important fossil fuel.
Coal is a readily combustible black or brownish-black sedimentary
rock normally occurring in rock strata in layers or veins called
coal beds.
Coal was formed from layers of plant remains that were protected
from biodegradation by usually acidic covering waters that gave a
natural antiseptic effect combating microorganisms and then later
mud deposits protecting against oxidization in the widespread
shallow seas thus trapping atmospheric carbon in the ground in
immense peat bogs that eventually were covered over and deeply
buried by sediments under which they metamorphosed into coal. Peat,
lignite (also called brown coal), sub-bituminous coal, bituminous
coal and anthracite gradually appeared as products of this
metamorphose.
Scheme of coalisation
Coal district Handlová - Nováky is situated in Hornonitrianska
kotlina (Upper Nitra basin). It is a relict of forests which grew
in valley swamps surrounding miocen volcanic mountains nowadays
called Vtácnik. Because of intensive volcanic activity coal beds
are deformated here. The district is divided to two main parts -
area of Handlová and area of Prievidza and Nováky. In Handlová area
appears brown coal, in Prievidza - Nováky area we can found
lignit.
Coal mining history in Handlová area goes to 18th century. In those
times, there were found some coal (lignit/brown coal) beds
outcrops. Count John Pálfy started mining in 1857. Hornonitranské
bane Prievidza (Upper Nitra mine Prievidza) exploits these coal
beds today.
The cache leads you to one of coal bed outcrops near Handlová. Here
you can see coal in its natural form as those ancient prospectors,
who found it 250 years ago. The place is a part of the Educational
coal miner´s trail. This trail goes through interesting places
showing coal mining artefacts in hilly country in vicinity of
Handlová. Whole trail is 9,5 km long and contains 13 tables
informing about history of coal mining in this area.You do not need
to go throw the whole trail for this cache. But we can recommend it
:-)
