Geocache Description:

Rusnove depo / Train depository

Rusen pri rusnovom depe

SLOVENSKY

Rakúska spolocnost StEG získala súhlas s budovaním trate do Velkých Bielic (1884). Predlženie trate do Prievidze 18. apríla 1896 realizovala štátna organizácia MÁV, trat do Nitrianskeho Pravna, otvorená 31. októbra 1909 je tratou miestneho významu, do Handlovej 15. februára 1913 a pokracovanie do Hornej Štubne v roku 1931 boli štátnymi zákazkami. Boli to vlastne dva plachtou kryté vozy.

ENGLISH

By the initiative of the civic association Club Bobarov was the building in 2005 declared as national cultural monument. The building is located on the Bojnicka street, number 2, in the area of the railway station. Train depositary was built between 1912 – 1913 and expanded in 1938. With its technological equipment is most preserved object of its kind in Slovakia. It is an important document of development of railway buildings and history of this type of transport in Slovakia.

Plans for construction of the railways found support from the Austrian monarchy. One proposal was to build the railroad on the old trade road of Ponitrie. The Austrian company StEG was given the contract to begin construction to Velke Bielice in 1884. This road was later enlarged by the state run company MAV and stretched to Prievidza (April 18, 1896). Another road to Nitrianske Pravno was opened on October 31, 1909 and was of great local importance. A road to Handlova was created on February 15, 1913 and was enlarged to continue to Horna Stubna in 1931, both state sponsored additions. Thanks to the newly built road system the town of Bojnice became accessible, and it began ejoying the reputation of being a tourist destination. Because of this demand Palfi ordered a shuttle route to be created (consisting of two sheet covered carriage´s), linking the Bojnice spa to the Prievidza railroad in 1907. This came to fruition in 1909 and was in existence until 1925. The one story building of the depository and its right wing were originally built in 1896. Coinciding with the construction of the road to Handlova, the station was rebuilt, enlarged from three to five tracks, a boiler room and water station were added, and a new wing including a waiting room and ticket Office was created. Incidents in the war caused the partial destruction of the station in 1945. The station was then repaired and many rooms inside (including the waiting room) closely resembled the way they look today. The outdoor facade was built at this time as well. the storage room, formerly cunstructed of wood, was destroyed and improved to brick. The boiler room inside of the depository was built in 1913, (designed by architect Plaffa), and it stands as an example of unique pre-war architecture and remains unchanged today.
