La Sarrasinière. Pour y accéder, depuis le way point nous prenons le chemin qui monte, puis au carrefour suivant nous descendons par le sentier à droite, et peu après apparaît à gauche un amas rocheux, à une trentaine de mètres du sentier. C’est une petite falaise, un simple escarpement. À sa base se découpe une ouverture haute de moins d’un mètre, celle d’un boyau qui semble s’enfoncer dans le sol. C’est à peine si un enfant ou une personne de petite taille peut y entrer, mais un bâton engagé entre deux pierres, au fond de ce trou, disparaît entièrement. La grotte fut découverte à la fin des années quarante par Monsieur Roger Bargeton, instituteur au Bessat de 1941 à 1968. L’un de ses élèves réussit à pénétrer dans la grotte. Il s’y engagea sur une longueur de quatre ou cinq mètres. Dans l’esprit des croyances populaires, n’importe quel trou dans le sol ou dans un rocher était une grotte « des Sarrasins », ou « des fées », lesquelles étaient, c’est bien connu, les épouses des premiers ! Mais cette cavité serait en fait le débouché de l’un des souterrains du château du Toil. M. Bargeton avait peint une inscription, en noir sur fond blanc, à l’entrée de la grotte :
Le château du Toil est à moins de trois kilomètres de là, à vol d’oiseau, plein nord, mais à une altitude inférieure : 130 m de dénivelé. Le boyau devait passer sous le Bessat et descendre vers le château. Les anciens se souviennent encore qu’étant enfants ils allaient au Toil pour s’amuser dans ses souterrains. Tout cela reste évidemment à démontrer. Peut-être la Sarrasinière n’était-elle qu’un simple souterrain-abri creusé à une époque indéterminée ? Cependant, le château ayant appartenu à la famille de Tournon, et cette partie du Grand Bois étant nommée précisément Bois de Tournon, on peut imaginer un lien de cause à effet.
ROGER BARGETON, UN PILATOIS DIGNE DE MÉMOIRE
Cet homme simple et affable fut le pionnier de la randonnée pédestre dans le Pilat. Etant en poste au Bessat, il était très effrayé à l’idée de pénétrer dans les bois. Pourtant, à force de raisonner, il convint que cela ne représentait pas de danger, sauf celui de s’y perdre. Alors il procéda par petites touches, allant chaque jour un peu plus loin, mais prenant soin de dérouler un peloton de ficelle pour être sûr de pouvoir revenir sur ses pas. Sa ficelle fut vite trop courte… Il eut donc l’idée de peindre des repères sur les arbres, des disques bicolores dont le côté blanc était toujours tourné vers le Bessat. On doit à Roger Bargeton les premiers balisages, réalisés avec ses élèves, les premiers topoguides en collaboration avec Claude Berthier, et la création du ski scolaire. Mais il fut aussi un infatigable dénicheur de curiosités.

The Sarrasinière. To get there, since the way we are taking the path up, then the next junction we go down the path to the right and left shortly after appears a mass rock, about thirty yards from the trail. It's a small cliff, just a bluff. At its base is cutting an opening high in less than a meter, that of a tunnel that seems to sink into the ground. This is hardly a child or small person can enter, but a staff committed between two stones at the bottom of the hole, disappears entirely. The cave was discovered in the late forties by Roger Bargeton Bessat teacher in 1941 and 1968. One of his students managed to enter the cave. He entered it for a length of four or five meters. In the spirit of popular belief, any hole in the ground or a rock was a cave "Saracens" or "fairy", which were, as everyone knows, the wives of the first! But this cave is actually the mouth of one of the underground palace of Toil. Mr Bargeton had painted an inscription in black on a white background, at the entrance of the cave:
The castle of Toil is less than three miles away as the crow flies, due north, but at a lower altitude: 130 m altitude. The hose must pass under the Bessat and down to the castle. Older children still remember that, they went to Toil for fun in its dungeons. All this of course remains to be demonstrated. Perhaps she was Sarrasinière a simple underground shelter dug at a time unlimited? However, the castle that belonged to the family of Tournon, and that part of being named Grand Bois Bois de Tournon precisely, we can imagine a causal link.
ROGER BARGETON, AN PILATOIS WORTHY OF MEMORY
This simple and affable man was the pioneer of hiking in the Pilat. Being stationed at Bessat, he was very frightened at the prospect of entering the woods. Yet, by dint of reasoning, he agreed that it represented no danger, except to get lost. Then he proceeded in small steps, going every day a little further, but taking care to place a ball of string to make sure you can retrace his steps. His string was too short ... He soon had the idea to paint marks on trees, which drives two-tone white side was always facing Bessat. We are indebted to Roger Bargeton the first markings, made with his students, the first guidebooks in collaboration with Claude Berthier, and the creation of the ski school. But he was also a tireless discoverer of curiosities.
