The Gernkopf is an elevation near Oberthalhausen, a small village
in Hesse (Germany), with a height of 390 metres above MSL.
The source of this geological site is a volcanic vent and it
belongs to the east-hessian bunter massif.
What you can see at the cache location are pyroclastic breccia and
stones of basalt.
The volcanic vent, probably a secondary vent of the Haukuppe, was
active in the period of tertiary about 6 million years ago.
To log this cache you have to do the following tasks:
1. What color have the stones?
2. What is the aisle width between the
two big rocks?
3. Please send me an email with your answers. If you want, make a
photo of you in front of the stones
(with your GPS-Unit).

Der Gernkopf ist eine Erhebung in der Nähe von Oberthalhausen,
ein kleines Dorf in Hessen (Deutschland), mit einer Höhe von
390m ü. NN.
Der Ursprung dieses Geotopes ist ein Vulkanschlot. Es wird der
osthessischen Buntsandsteinscholle zugeordnet.
Was ihr an der Cache-Location sehen könnt sind pyroklastische
Breccien und Basaltgestein.
Der Vulkanschlot, vermutlich ein Nebenschlot der Haukuppe, war vor
ca. 6 Millionen Jahren im Tertiär aktiv.
Um den Cache zu loggen, erfüllt folgende
Aufgaben:
1. Welche Farbe haben die Steine?
2. Was ist die Gangbreite zwischen den beiden großen
Felsen?
3. Bitte sendet mir eine Email mit euren Antworten. Wenn ihr
möchtet, macht ein Foto von euch vor den Steinen (mit eurem
GPS-Gerät).
