Geocache Description:

La petite église paroissiale de Saint-Cizy, aujourd’hui en ruines, servait la commune indépendante de Saint-Cizy, réunie à Cazères par ordonnance royale en 1842.

C’est ici que serait mort Cizy, preux chevalier carolingien, à l’issue d’un combat contre les Sarrazins d’Espagne au VIIIème ou IXème siècle. En effet, certains historiens pensent qu'il était un soldat de Charlemagne, sous les ordres de Saint-Vidian : Le martyr d'Angonia.
En 1317, à la suite de la création de l’évêché de Rieux Volvestre, les évêques en firent le patron de Rieux Volvestre et transférèrent ses reliques dans la cathédrale.

Attention : des bottes en caoutchouc sont les chaussures les plus adaptées pour cette cache ! (boue, orties et ronces …..)

The small parish church of St. Cizy, now in ruins, served the independent town of Saint-Cizy, united to Cazères by royal decree in 1842.
Here supposedly died Cizy, a valiant Carolingian knight, after a battle against the Saracens of Spain in the eighth or ninth century. Indeed, some historians believe he was a soldier of Charlemagne, under the orders of St. Vidian: Le martyr d'Angonia.
In 1317, following the creation of the bishopric of Rieux Volvestre, the bishops made him Saint Patron of Rieux Volvestre and transferred his relics to the cathedral.

Warning: rubber boots are the shoes best suited for this cache! (mud, nettles and thorns ... ..)
