Geocache Description:

A short uphill stroll. During the autumn the path (which is cobbled near the church) can be very slippery with leaves and mud. The cache location is down a short bank which may also be very slippery. There's a bench with a view down over Tintern and an attractive ruined church and churchyard. Please note the warning signs: Although the ruined church is open it is privately owned. The cache is a 0.4l screw-top pot so only suitable for very small trackables and other items.

While browsing information about Tintern we came across a legend about a party of young men who dug up some skeletons from the old abbey orchards. Later in the evening, their frolics and food came to an abrupt halt when ghostly, cowled monks rose from nearby graves and with much swirling mists (and probably a cloud of bats and hooting owls for good measure) they advanced in menacing file towards the young adventurers, who soon fled, leaving the remains of their food and drink lying around the grass where it was whisked into the air and thrown about by whirling gusts.
From a safe distance the trembling young men watched the sombre ghostly figures leave the abbey grounds and drift silently along the rough track towards the church of St Mary the Virgin, further up the valley slope, where they disappeared from view.

Like all good legends, there are no dates or names provided so it's probably a load of twaddle but it's an interesting spot and the viewpoint is reason enough to place a cache in the vicinity. By the way, if anyone has any encounters with the undead please don't mention it in your log - We don't want to put anyone off visiting!

We hope you enjoy the cache and its location but please don't give away any "spoiler" photos or comments in your log - Thanks!
