Please be aware, that the landowner of this mountain started to charge people 400 ISK to climb up. So if you want to log this cache, you will need to pay the fee. I am sorry for that and I also want to state that I am not affiliated with the landowner.

 

If you drive on the road 58 to Stykkishólmur you'll find a few km before a road on the right sight leading to Helgafell, the holy mountain. In the Eyrbyggia Saga the mountain was named Helgafell by Pórólfur which means "holy mountain". Nobody was allowed to look at the mountain without being washed. Today it is said, if you climb up the mountain without looking backwards a wish will become true. From the top of the mountain you'll enjoy a wonderful view over the islands of Hvammfjördur.
