The rocks "Tuilière" and "Sanadoire" are situated in the north of the Sancy-massive. They are volcanic plugs which consist of phonolite. This rock gives a metallic sound when it is hit. The magmas were very viscous so they could not disperse laterally out of the crater. Like a piston the lavas rose. They conserved their diameter and formed the rocks. In the case of the Tuilière it was a single eruption, in the case of the Sanadoire there were several eruptions.
Les Roches Tuilière et Sanadoire se dressent sur le versant Nord du massif du Sancy. Elles sont des protrusions, consistant de phonolite. Cette roche sonne métallique sous les coups de marteau. Les magmas des volcans étaient tellement visqueux qu'ils n'ont pas pu se déverser latéralement hors des cratères. Comme un piston les laves se construisirent verticalement. Ils conservèrent les diamètres et formèrent les roches. Dans le cas de Tuilière, il y avait une seule venue, dans le cas de Sanadoire, il y avait plusieurs venues.
Nördlich des Sancy-Massifs liegen die Felsen "Tuilière" und "Sanadoire". Sie sind ehemalige Schlotfüllungen, die aus dem Gestein Phonolit bestehen. Dieser Stein klingt metallisch, wenn man ihn anschlägt. Die Magmen der Vulkane waren sehr zähflüssig, so konnten sie sich nicht seitlich aus den Kratern ausbreiten. Wie ein Kolben schoben sie sich nach oben. Sie behielten ihren Durchmesser und formten somit die Felsen. Beim Tuilière geschah dies bei einem einzigen Ausbruch, beim Sanadoire gab es mehrere Ausbrüche.
Especially at the Roche Tuilière you can see the basaltic columns. They are formed when viscous magma cools down slowly. Fissures are appearing like a mud puddle in the sun. The prisms are formed rectangular to the cooling surface. At the time, the Roche Tuilière was the chimney of the volcano and reaches a height of 1288 meters.
Spécialement au Roche Tuilière on peut admirer des orgues basaltiques. Ils forment si magma visqueuse refroidis lentement. Fissures apparent comme une mare de boue qui se dessèche au soleil. Les prismes s'orientent perpendiculairement aux surfaces de refroidissement. La roche Tuilière, autrefois cheminée du volcan, culmine à 1 288 mètres.
Besonders am Roche Tuilière sind die Basaltsäulen gut zu sehen. Diese entstehen, wenn zähflüssige Magma sich langsam abkühlt. Es erscheinen Risse wie bei einer Schlammpfütze in der Sonne. Die Prismen bilden sich rechtwinklig zur abkühlenden Fläche. Der Roche Tuilière war einst der Schlot eines Vulkans und ist 1288m hoch.
The Sanadoire is a rest of a cone. In-between the two rocks there's a trough valley emerged from a glacier. Erosion formed today's shape of the two rocks which are similar but so different.
Le Sanadoire est un reste d'un cône. Entre les deux rochers, c'est formé une vallée glaciaire. L'érosion a donné les formes que l'on peut admirer aujourd'hui aux volcans, voisins mais d'origines différentes.
Der Sanadoire ist der Rest eines Kegels. Zwischen den beiden Felsen ist durch einen Gletscher ein Trogtal entstanden. Durch Erosion bildete sich die heutige Form der beiden Felsen, die so ähnlich und doch so unterschiedlich sind.

Choose one of the both waypoints. Draw a sketch of the structures in the rocks you can see. Take a photo of the sketch and post it with your log.

(OPTIONAL) Take a photo of you at this place, right above the first tree in the field of boulders, with the Sanadoire in the background. You should have a great view on the Roche Tuilière from there. It's really T3! Post the picture with your log. Look at the example photos.
