Chertova lestnica (Devil’s stairs, Shaitan-Merdven) is mountain
pass discovered by tribes residing in South Coast of Crimea 6
thousand years ago. It was shortest way to get inland. Roman Via
Militaris crossed mountains here in beginning of our era to connect
their Hersones and Haraks citadels. Pass has been passed by many
famous people including A.S. Pushkin.
Pass got its name because of huge limestone plates looking like
big stairs between two vertical rocks. Altitude of pass is 578 m
and length around 1 km.
Cache is located on the top of rock with impressive view on
Black sea and Ay-Petri plateau. Marked
path to the pass starts from old road at N 44 25 261 E 033 51 480.
When you reach the pass, continue inland and climb to the top from
North side through beech forest. Enjoy!
Small note on cache maintenance: I am here once
a quarter for job purposes.
