Geocache Description:

Cache Information
Long walk, can be very marshy. Lots of heather. Do not go looking for cache in foggy weather or darkness due to way markers being extremely far apart. Path not very clear.

The Covenanter's Grave
On 28th of November 1666 a local shepherd, Adam Sanderson, encountered a Covenanter who has been wounded at the Battle of Rullion Green. The Covenanter was desperately trying to get to a point from where he could see the Ayrshire hills just one last time. The shepherd offered his assistance but it was refused. The next day the shepherd found the body of the Covenanter at Oaken Bush.

At his own risk, as government troops would have been scouring the area for fugitives, Adam Sanderson transported the body high onto the moors a little short of the summit of Black law as it is from this point you can look West between Darlees Rig and Bleak Law to the Ayrshire hills.

Archaeologists excavated the grave and found the Covenanter's well preserved body wrapped in a red cloak with two Dutch coins sewn into his collar. The original marker stone with its coded inscription now sits on the windowsill of Dunsyre Kirk.

Congratulations to stufio for being the FTF.
