Geocache Description:

This cache meets State Forest guidelines.

Mostly red and black, the male Scarlet Tanager looks much like the male Cardinal except it doesn't have a crest or a black face and its wings are jet black. The female is green and yellow. A hoarse, raspy "chip-burr" is its song, which can be heard for great distances. The Scarlet Tanager is a warm-weather tropical bird that never comes north until well into the spring.
