The Downy Woodpecker is the smallest of the woodpeckers. It lives
in forests and on farms, pecking at trees for insect eggs while it
grips the bark with four strong toes. Its song is a short
"pick-pick." The Downy Woodpecker has white spots on black wings
and a snowy belly. The male has a red patch on the back of its
head.
