Geocache Description:

The cache is located in Pleasant Ridge Park. Follow the excellent trail system here.

Several years ago D. Luthringer, An Environmental education specialist at Cooks Forest State Park visited my “Pleasant Ridge Park” cache in March and noticed a number of very old trees. These are found in the middle of the park along a ridge in an east-west orientation. There are sugar maples over 100, Am. beech 150+, N. red oak 150+, and Am. Hemlock 200+. But, there was one very old tree that he couldn’t identify in the winter. I finally contacted someone who could identify it. It is a Tupalo or Sour Gum tree, and may be the oldest or largest of its species in Erie County.

The tree cover here is very heavy, but the tree is on the north edge of the swamp here and is best viewed from the board walk. Stay on the trail until the last 100+ feet.

For more information on the park see "Pleasant Ridge Park Cache" (GCA190).
