This cache is located at Belmont in Stafford County.
Belmont is fun and interesting place to visit. There is a little
known trail on the perimeter of the property. Along this trail is
where you can find mother nature and a few geocaches. As I was
placing these caches I saw a variety of wildlife. There are some
hilly places the trail is not too difficult and should be kid
friendly.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio
at Belmont - The richly furnished country house and working studio
of American impressionist painter Gari Melchers (1860-1932) can be
seen as they appeared in the 1920s.
Gari Melchers was one of the most decorated
artists of his day. Today he is relatively unknown. His unvarying
ambition to reproduce the essential character of a place and its
people was the key to his international success, and yet it caused
him to be considered old-fashioned by the close of his career.
Nevertheless, his role in the history of American painting is
secured because of the legacy of his work preserved at the museum
and, because, like countless other Americans who made aliving
through their craft, his story testifies to the full breadth of our
country's artistic vibrancy at the opening of the twentieth
century.
In 1942, the artist's widow, Corinne Melchers, deeded the property
and its collections to the Commonwealth of Virginia as a memorial
to her husband
To access trailhead please DO NOT bushwack through the tall grass.
Walk between the split rail fence and the grass along the drive on
your right as you enter. That will take you around the grass to the
trail head. Trail head is not marked with a sign but is very
obvious. This cache is a standard woodland cache...NOT a
weirdharold special cammo IPS cache. While your there see what this
hidden jewel "Belmont" has to offer...enjoy the art and the
history. I hope you enjoy this special place..
PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB ON ANY PART OF THE SPRING
WELLS. The container is located a only few ft. off of the
trail.
Congratulations to BurkoCat for
