Tourbeschreibung
eingestellt.

Logbedingungen
Um diesen Cache loggen zu dürfen
musst du folgende Aufgaben lösen:
- N 47° 13.482 E 011° 53.350 (Wallfahrtskirche Maria
Rast)
An diesem Punkt findest du meistbesuchte Wallfahrtskirche des
Zillertales: Maria Rast.
an!
Logs ohne Logfreigabe oder Fotos werden
ohne Ausnahme kommentarlos gelöscht!
Tour Description
Before you start your short trip to the gold mine and learn more
about the unique landscape at Hainzenberg, choose one of the
following tour variants. Each tour variant has its own starting
point at which you can park your car too.
Variant 1
Starting Point: N 47° 13.634 E 011° 53.160
This Earth Cache can ideally be combined with our Mystery Cache
"Maria Rast" (GC1NY00). The Mystery Cache starts at the given
starting point near the miners' pillar in Zell am Ziller. From
there several stages lead the way along the Stations of the Cross
up to a famous sanctuary. The Earth cache was designed to be done
on the way back to Zell am Ziller.
Variant 2 (recommended)
Starting Point: N 47° 13.306 E 011° 53.777
Alternatively, you can also participate on an official tour
through the gold mine. In an impressive Multimedia presentation
inside the mine you can get an idea of the working conditions
underground, the not just bourgeois lifestyle of the miners and
their social environment. The tours take place hourly during the
months of July, August and September, in May, June and October
every two hours. The price of € 10,- for adults and € 5,-
for children includes the tour through the gold mine, a return trip
with the Zillertaler Gold Express (slow train), a cheese tasting in
the cheese factory and a visit to the zoo.
Variant 3
Starting Point: N 47° 13.458 E 011° 53.415
The Earth cache can be made on its own as well. The trail starts
at the pilgrimage church of Maria Rast, and leads along of
the Stations of the Cross to the entrance of the Gold mine. Along
the way you will find several information boards. Read them
carefully and answer the questions below.
Good luck!
Gold Rush
Beyond national borders Hainzenberg became famous by gold
mining. At the beginning of the 17th century more and more gold was
produced. This led to a bitter quarrel between Salzburg and Tyrol,
since they agreed on a common use of the gold and silver mined in
the Zillertal in 1427. In 1630 this quarrel nearly ended in a war.
Finally, the parties complied with some of the earlier agreements,
the mine was again operated together and the yield was split
up.
1803, when Zillertal joined Tyrol, the mine went into the
possession of the prince on Tyrol. During the heyday about 50
miners worked for one supervisor. Initially, the mine supplied 1
gram of gold to 1000 kilograms of rocks, through improvements of
the procedure and blasting powder (since 1710), the yield could be
increased to 10 grams. The gold was delivered to the headquarter in
Vienna. The silt (= finest pieces of ore that are a result of the
conditioning process) was transferred to Brixlegg that was
responsible for the administration of Hainzenberg's mine. 1842
Staffler wrote: "Whoever visits Zillerthal, visites the gold mine,
and admires the water machine and the underlying engine." He meant
the pumping station that was built in 1788/89 and made the tedious
and expensive manual water control superfluous. This also enabled
the depletion of gold ore deep in the ground.
1858 the mine of Hainzenberg was taken over by the bishops of
Brixen and Salzburg within the new created "Vincenzi gold mining
trade union". Until this time the state operated the goldmine on
its own. After the work was stopped in 1870 because of the low
income, British, American and German companies tried to make
production viable again. Around 1930, the goldmining was completely
stopped.

Logging Conditions
Before you are allowed to log
this cache you have to accomplish the following tasks first:
- N 47° 13.482 E 011° 53.350 (sanctuary Maria Rast)
At this position you will find the most famous sanctuary in
Zillertal: Maria Rast. Here you see the result how excessive
mining harms the environment: due to a rockslide that was triggered
by the underlying gold mining, the church is secured only by a few
wooden beams before slipping down the hill. In which year did the
severe rockslide occure? Write down the year as
AAAA. Further make a photo of you
and your team at the entrance to the church und write down the
current altitude that is currently displayed on your GPSr as
TOP.
- N 47° 13.488 E 011° 53.301 (near the Cross Station XII)
In the immediate surrounding area a unique landform can be
recognized. This suggests that there have been many different
stages of underground mines. The old tunnels have not been refilled
and finally collapsed. How are these sinking areas called in the
mountainous language? You'll find the answer to this question on
the information board in front of you. Write down this word
(plural) as BBBBBBB.
- N 47° 13. 523 E 011° 53.170 (near the Cross Station VII)
The gold mining on Hainzenberg and Rohrberg brought a new social
stratum to Zell: the Miners. But this did not lead to much profit.
Read the information board in front of you and answer this
question: How many tons of rock (german: "Gestein") had to be
lifted in the first 250 years of its existence to produce one ton
of refined gold? Write down this number as
CCC.CCC
- N 47° 13.516 E 011° 53.049 (near the Cross Station IV)
Here you'll find a fork. Follow the path on the left, go down the
stairs until you reach the gold mine at the header coordinates.
Once there, make a photo of you and your team at
the entrance to the "Erbstollen". Again write down the current
altitude that is currently displayed on your GPSr as
BOTTOM.
- Your final task is to estimate the expansion of the gold mines
in Hainzenberg by calculating the difference between
TOP and BOTTOM.
Back home send us a brief e-mail with the name of your team
together with the date when you've solved the tasks and the answer
of task 5 to the following address:
AAAA-BBBBBBB-CCC.CCC@mus162.com
"AAAA-BBBBBBB-CCC.CCC" is a placeholder. Of
course you have to replace it by the answers to the questions of
task 1 to 3 first. If your answers were correct you should get an
automatic log approval immediately. Then you are allowed to log
your visit online. Please attach the two obligatory photos of task
1 and 4 to your log as well!
Logs without a valid log approval or
photos will be deleted without exception and comment!
