Located in the heart of downtown Kyiv is Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square). On holidays and special occasions, Maidan is often a center of activity, and it is not uncommon to see a stage set up for a concert. On a Sunday afternoon, part of Khreshchatik Street gets blocked off, and you can enjoy a stroll without worry of traffic.
The square below the cache boasts two statues. One is the Monument to Independence, a 12m bronze sculpture of a girl holding a branch of a snowball tree atop a 50m column. The other is a sculpture of Kyi, Shchek, and Khoryv, the legendary founders of Kyiv, along with their sister Lybid.
The cache location will give you a bit of a bird's eye view of Maidan. To reach the cache, follow the sidewalk up a street running up the hill from Khreshchatik until you come to a set of stairs near a pedway crossing the street. Climb the stairs are you should be able to proceed to the cache location easily. Please be discrete as there are often muggles around enjoying the view.
The cache is a magnetic nano on a bracket of a low pipe near the railing; using the helper pics to assist in seeing where to make the fast grab. Please make sure it is well attached when you replace it so it doesn't fall off and get muggled. There are actually several containers under the brackets along the pipe, to allow more place to sign (a nano log sheet is only so big) and as a backup in case muggles discover one or a container gets broken. Please sign just one log sheet to conserve log sheet space, and please return them where you find them; do not put them together in one spot, since then they could all get muggled at once.
