Bei den angegebenen Koordinaten befinden sich das „Ochsenauge“ und die „Sphinxgrotte“. Dabei handelt es sich um drei Austritte der Leutraquelle, welche gestalterisch in den Ilmpark integriert wurden.
Bei der Quelle handelt es sich um eine Karstquelle und ist Zeugnis des Aufstiegs kalkhaltigen Wassers an geologischen Störungen die den Ilmtalgraben begrenzen.
Nach wenigen Metern mündet das Quellwasser in die Ilm.
Eine Karstquelle oder auch Verwerfungsquelle ist eine Quelle, die Teil eines Karstsystems ist. Dazu gehört die unterirdische Entwässerung eines größeren Gebietes, was dazu führt, dass Karstquellen häufig sehr große Schüttung haben. Karstquellen sind in der Regel das Ende eines Höhlensystems, an dem ein Höhlenfluss die Erdoberfläche erreicht. Die wichtigste Besonderheit von Karstquellen folgt aus der Tatsache, dass Höhlen das Wasser schnell weiterleiten. So kommt es zu minimaler Reinigung des Wassers und zu geringem Ausgleich unterschiedlicher Schüttung. Das Wasser tritt bereits nach wenigen Tagen an der Quelle wieder aus. Unwetter, Schneeschmelze und allgemein jahreszeitliche Änderungen der Niederschlagsmenge sind an der Quelle deutlich abzulesen.
Um diesen Earthcache als "gefunden" zu loggen, ist es notwendig, die nachfolgenden Fragen zu beantworten und ein Foto von Dir bzw. etwas anderem zu machen und dem Log anzuhängen. Da die Antworten sowie das Foto als Nachweis des Besuchs gelten, werden Logs ohne das BEIDE Bedingungen erfüllt sind gelöscht!

At the given coordinates is a spring located, called Leutra spring. This spring has three exits which were designed all different. One of these three exits has a round shape and the water cames out in the middle. That is the reason why it is called in German "Ochsenauge", a eye of a ox. An other exit is designed in a cave with a monument of the Sphinx in the middle. It isn't wondering that it is called Sphinx Cave. The Leutra spring is a karst spring also fault spring and were in the design of the Ilmpark have been integrated. The water is testimony of the rise of hard water on the geological disturbances of the river Ilm valley ditch limit. The most significant ingredient of this hard water is lime. Some few meters, after the spring water came out of the earth, it flows into the river Ilm.
