Prinsens gate går fra Strandgata ved Oslo Børs til Nedre Vollgate ved Wessels plass / Stortinget. Frem til rundt år 1700 het gaten Øvre Stræde, og nåværende Kirkegata het Prindsens Gade.

This cache is part of a geocaching game in Oslo, called Geopol. The cache series shows all streets in the norwegian version of the Monopoly game, with emphasis on historic places and how our city has changed over the years. Prinsensgate is located in the old part of Oslo as you can see from some of the buildings here. The city centre was built here after a large fire in 1624. The danish-norwegian king Christian IV decided to rebuild the city north of the Akershus castle and fortress, and the city was named Christiania. The right-angled streets are referred to as "Kvadraturen". The oldest part is close to the geocaches in Nedre and Øvre Slottsgate. This cache is closer to the Oslo central station and communication is a keyword also for Prinsensgate. The picture shows Prinsensgate in 1931. The map shows the "Kvadraturen" organization with Prinsensgate in the middle (1917).
