Geocache Description:

Ammo Box just off a sand dune path

At the end of Galveston Island lies San Luis Pass, this is where a person can cross in order to reach the peninsula that leads to Surfside Beach. This is a great place to go fishing, bird watching, and enjoy time on the beach.

You do not need to drive on the beach to reach this cache. A less than .25 mi. walk through soft sand will be required to reach the cache.

Driving is allowed on the beach; however, the sand is not packed in most areas and requires 4-wheel drive to be sure you can navigate it.

If you do not have 4-wheel drive, park near the bridge (there is a paved road you can park on at the south side of the bridge) and walk along the base of the bridge (soft sand road). This is advised so you do not walk along the plant growth in the sand dunes.

Look for the highest sand dune which has an off-road trail leading you there, this is the vicinity of the cache.

Box is within feet of the trail; however, it is well camouflaged.

If you're down to visit, we hope you enjoy our beautiful island.
