Saint-Martin est le patron de Ganshoren. Cet évêque de Tours, né en 316, est encore honoré dans notre pays. On y dénombre plus de 300 paroisses patronnées par le saint.
A Ganshoren il est dignement fêté tous les 11 novembre, lors de grandes kermesses. Cette fête locale réunit tous les fermiers des environs, venant à cheval à la chapelle pour assister à la messe. Le soir, des feux sont allumés aux carrefours des chemins de campagne. Au fil du temps cette tradition se perpétue le dimanche suivant le 11 novembre par une grande cavalcade en costume d'époque et par un cortège à cheval dans toutes les rues de la commune. Le chef des cavaliers distribue des friandises et des gâteaux secs aux enfants du terroir.
La première chapelle de Ganshoren dédiée à Saint-Martin fut édifiée au XIIème siècle. En effet, l’évêque Odon de Cambrai cite Ganshoren dans un acte daté 1112. Tout va de pair: érection de la tour de défense (château de Rivieren) et premiers habitants à son abri, construction de la chapelle par extrême piété. Les traces de la première église existent sous forme de fondations imposantes. Les fouilles ont même démontré une occupation carolingienne au même emplacement. Cette première chapelle fut détruite en août 1356, sans doute par les troupes de Louis de Male, comte de Flandre lors de la guerre dite de succession du duché de Brabant.
Patron de Ganshoren, Saint-Martin a son église consacrée en 1853 et construite par l'architecte bruxellois Louis Spaak (grand-père de l'auteur de Kaatje). L’église Saint-Martin a été démolie en 1974 lors des travaux d'élargissement de la rue Beeckmans. En 1971, Place Reine Fabiola, un nouvel édifice religieux est bâti par l'architecte Jean Gilson.
Sa conception en surprit plus d'un : l'église ne possède pas de clocher mais un "signal", sous la forme d'un haut trapèze, au sommet duquel se trouve un carillon protégé par une toiture arrondie surmontée d'une grande croix. La façade gigantesque du signal est décorée par un bas-relief monumental en céramique polychrome. Oeuvre de l'artiste polonais Zygmunt Dobryzcky, inspiré par le thème de la charité, il représente l'essor du règne du Christ, manifesté par l'exemple de Saint-Martin, figure centrale de la composition. Saint-Martin n'est pas la seule paroisse de la commune.

In Ganshoren he is celebrated every 11 November, during big festivals. This festival brings together all the local farmers, from horseback to the chapel to attend the religious ceremony. The riders head distributes sweets and biscuits to the children of Ganshoren.
The first Ganshoren chapel dedicated to St Martin was built in the XIIth century. Indeed, Bishop Odo of Cambrai quote Ganshoren in a note dated 1112. Everything goes hand in hand: erection of the tower defense (castle of Rivieren) and its first inhabitants to shelter, construction of the chapel by extreme piety. The first traces of the church existed in the form of large foundations. Excavations have shown a Carolingian occupation in the same location. The first chapel was destroyed in August 1356, probably by the troops of Louis de Male, Count of Flanders during the war of succession known as the Duchy of Brabant.
