Geocache Description:

This cache is a replacement for one placed on Pewley Down in July 1947 by my mother and her friends when they were children. The above co-ordinates are not for the cache, they are for some nearby parking spaces.

Pewley Down is a beautiful area of chalk grassland. It was given to the people of Guildford at the end of the Great War by The Friary Brewery. The area is a Nature Reserve and is an important site for butterflies and other invertebrates.

The steep lower bank, at the southern end of the Down, has been fenced off to form a paddock for the "Pewley Cattle" that can sometimes be seen grazing here. These three Highland cows (Thisbie, Fiona and Yak) have been introduced to reduce the height and density of the grass sward and to help control invasive scrub.

Pewley Down Replacement Cache is a straightforward two-stage multi-cache. There are questions to answer at each of the stages, and these will give you the co-ordinates of the final cache.

Stage 1 - N51 13.888 W0 33.600
Sit and admire the view. Find the person commemorated here. Find these numbers:

Letters in her first name (A)
Letters in her middle name (B)
Letters in her surname (C)

Stage 2 - N51 13.860 W0 33.507
While you are here find some distances:

Miles to Chobham Ridges (D)
Miles to Blackdown (EF)

Final cache
The final cache is at
N51 13.(D-E)(A+C-D)(C+F)
W000 33.C(A-E)D

The original cache was a small tin containing:
A Ship Ha'penny
A Foreign Coin
A Bottle Opener
A Bottle Top

The replacement cache is a 140 ml plastic clip top container, and is hidden close to where the original cache from 1947 was. You will find it covered by some rocks and sticks. Please make sure it can't be seen when you leave.

If you can find the original then you are a better searcher than me!
