Geocache Description:

På kanten af tunneldalen
- en del af Kalvøstien.
On the edge of the tunnel valley

You are walking right on the edge of the tunnel valley in Genner Bay. And maybe you feel the silence above this untouched area.

The tunnel valley in Genner Bay occurred during the last ice age (Weichsel Ice Age). You need to imagine that there has been a great glacier or icecap (some places more than 1000 meters thick).

The classic tunnel valey theory are explaining the formation like this:
"Large quantities of meltet water, which was formed at the ice surface, sank through the cracks and fissures down to the ice bottom. Here it gathered to rapidly water flows through tunnels, and ran out of the gates by glacier ice edge. Meltet water that filled the tunnels completely, was driven by the pressure from the high water in the cracks and it was therefore able to run upwards. It could erode deeply into the ground and transport materials to the fronten of the Ice. When the ice cap later had melted away, - according to this theory - the former tunnels of meltet water stood back as deep valleys in the landscape."
G. Gruelund, 1937.
