The Merry Maidens stand in chasened silence in a roadside field between Lamorna and St Buryan. The legend is that the stones were originally a band of naughty local maidens who danced on a Sunday (tut tut!) and were turned to stone for their misbehaviour. The two pipers who were playing the music for them tried to run away but they also got caught and their two taller stones can be seen in another field to the north east. Such frivolity could not be tolerated!
There is parking for 3 cars in the layby. Please respect this ancient site: The sign says "Don't change the site, let the site change you." The cache location is well away from the stones, at the edge of the field.
