Geocache Description:

This cache is located high above Deer Creek near a look out point which offers an awesome view of the cascading creek through a steep gorge.

UPDATE (2014): As this cache has gone missing several times, the container is now well-camouflaged. It is still in the same area specified in the hint, however it is not visible without moving something. A flashlight wouldn't hurt.

Parker Conservation Area is 156 acres of hilly, forested land. As a conservation area, the park is undeveloped and restricted to passive activities. Deer Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River, flows along the border of this little known section of Harford County.

Parking is available at the bridge on Jolly Acres Road under the white pine tree. Follow the path upstream along the creek. Notice an old stone structure between the path and the stream believed to be part of an old mill.

Pay close attention, as this path is not maintained by Harford County; proceed at your own risk. The path has been eroded, and at many places it would be easy to misstep and slip into the water. There will be spots where you will be boulder hopping, bushwacking, leaping over small, muddy stream banks, and climbing up steep banks pulling on saplings and rocks to reach the top. This path is not recommended for small children or the faint of heart. Long pants and hiking boots are recommended.

About 350 ft down the path, notice the old steps on the far side of the stream. They lead up the steep bank to a stone chimney, all that remains of an old homestead. If you visit the area in the winter, the chimney and the rocky outcropping that border the stream are visible.

You will know you are close to the lookout when you pass through what appears to be a campsite. According to a local woman I spoke to while scoping out the area, there have been fish as big as a man's thigh sighted in the large pool in this section of the creek. Water snakes are also seen drifting down stream. Still tempted to take a dip? ;-) Once you reach the top, have a seat, relax and enjoy the view. Satellite reception can be poor due to the location in the gorge, so the cache has been placed a safe distance from the edge, back on the trail. Use caution when returning back down the bank. We don't want to have to disable the cache because some geocachers disabled themselves. Swallow your pride, sit down and slide down the bank!

Please practice CITO. Be alert, stay safe, and search at your own risk. This cache has been approved by HCPR.

The hint is a definite spoiler!
