Les crus du BEAUJOLAIS #6 : Chènas Traditional Geocache

Le Chénas est l'un des dix crus du vignoble du Beaujolais qui sont / The Chenas (AOC) is one of the ten crus of Beaujolais vineyards, which are:

COTE DE BROUILLY ; BROUILLY ; REGNIE ; MORGON ; CHIROUBLES ; JULIENAS ; CHENAS ; FLEURIE ; ST AMOUR ; MOULIN A VENT

Les vins de Chénas proviennent d'un site autrefois occupé par une chênaie qui est à l'origine du nom de ce village et de son cru./ The Chénas wines come from a site occupied in the past by an oak grove Its probably the origin of the name of the village and his wineyards

C’était le vin favori de Louis XIII ; la culture sur 283 ha s’étend sur les communes de Chénas (69) et la Chapelle-de-Guinchay (71). C’est la plus petite superficie mais il a leprivilège enviable d’être le voisin du morgon et surtout du célèbre Moulin à Vent dont il possède certaines caractéristiques avec une  belle capacité de garde. En vieillissant (8 à 10 ans selon les millésimes),/ It was the favorite wine of Louis XIII; culture extends over 283 ha in the communes of Chénas (69) and la Chapelle-de-Guinchay (71). This is the smallest area but has the privilege of being the neighbor of the morgon and especially of the famous Moulin à Vent wich it has some of its characteristics with a great capacity for aging. (it can be consumed aged  8 to 10 years depending on the year of production )

Selon la légende  l'origine du nom Gamay (cépage des vins du beaujolais) viendrait de l’époque ou  un vigneron venu à stocker ses fûts de vin à Chénas, plongea son écuelle, goûta, goûta à nouveau jusqu’à chanter toutes les notes de la gamme./ According to legend the name Gamay (the grape of Beaujolais wines) come from the time when a Wine grower come to Chenas for store his wine barrels, when he plunged his bowl, tasted, tasted again to sing all the notes in the range.

La cache se trouve au pied de la montagne de Rémont au vieux bourg./ The cache is located at the foot of the mountain of Rémont in the old village.

Aujourd’hui devenu hameau c’est ici que se trouvait autrefois le bourg de Chénas : un vrai bourg avec son église, son cimetière, sa place etc./ Now it is an hamlet  but that  was once the village of Chénas a true village with its church, cemetery,square place etc..

En 1870 on y dénombrait encore 46 habitants (le village en recensait alors 754) c’est a cette époque que le bourg se déplaça./ In 1870 there were still 46 people (754 identified in the village ) At that time the village was moved.

L’église construite en pisé était devenue trop vétuste pour envisager réparation, l’habitat s’était concentré en aval, plus près des communications (routière et plus tard ferroviaire) près du lieu dit la Dime. Plutôt que de réparer l’ancienne église, le conseil municipal préféra en construire une nouvelle, plus grande et plus proche des habitants (église st Clair datant de 1875-1877)./ The church wich was built in dried mud had become too old to consider repair,inhabitants are  concentrated  downstream, closer to the communications (road and later rail) near the place known as the Dime. Rather than repair the old church, the city council chose to build a new, larger and closer to the people (church st Clair from 1875-1877).

On remarque encore quelques pierres gravées ou sculptées, provenant de l’ancienne église et utilisées dans des constructions plus récentes du vieux bourg, regardez le dernier puits encore en service près de la place ainsi que la croix installée sur l’emplacement de l’ancienne église./ We notice a few stones engraved or carved from the old church and used in more recent buildings of the old town, watching the last wells still in service around the square and the cross installed on the site of the former church.

 Un christ en bois peint, œuvre du XVème siècle a été conservé et réinstallé dans la nouvelle église./ A painted wooden Christ,  work made in the fifteenth century has been preserved and relocated to the new church.
