Geocache Description:

People from the Edinburgh area are spoilt with a good variety of walks in the Pentlands.

Starting from the car park walk up the tarmac road, towards Bavelaw.

(There is another cache nearby).

A small bridge splits the Threipmuir Reservoir. Looking up the Beech tree lined road, you may agree it is not quite a cache and 'dash', the 45m climb looks daunting.

CAUTION : be aware of cyclists coming down the hill at speed!!

At the top of this hill if you have not already planned your route then this is your dilemma. Which Way ?
Route 1, East ; low level, passes Bavelaw Castle and into the Pentlands via Green Cleugh towards The Howe.
Route 2, West then South ; leads to high level, up to the saddle at Hare Hill and on to West Kip.
Route 3, West and a long walk, toward the Borestane. A newish track makes this walk easier.
Route 4, or North down to Threipmuir Reservoir to the Car Park or on to Harlaw.

Or is the dilemma that you do not have a pen or pencil with you

Either way, this cache gives you the excuse to have a breather. This is a popular area to access the Pentlands so beware of people coming in from all directions.

This cache is on the route of 'A Pentland Walk' (GC1AJW3) - see bookmark. On that day walk cachers are lead past many other caches in the Pentlands.

Replaced August 2010, smaller container but remember not all hints are at first helpful. Previous unsubtle hints in the logs will not help. Good hunting, and please do not refer to the container/location in your logs.
Update (May 2011), container did not fair well over the winter, now repleaced, minor change to co-ords and hint.
Good news they have laid tarmac at the car park, much more civilised!
