Geocache Description:

This is a very easy cache and dash close to Swansea’s Cathedral; St Joseph’s.

N.B. PLEASE DO NOT UNTIE

Parking is available on the streets very close by, though may be harder to come by when there is a service taking place. Please be sensitive if you arrive to find there is a funeral at the church.

I would imagine this cache is now definitely do-able with a pushchair, and wheelchair users would be able to get very close but may need assistance with retrieval since the cache is around chest height.

Many muggle children play in the area, so please take care to be stealthy.

Did you know (and do you care)?

St Joseph is the patron saint of families, workers, the universal church and a happy death. He married Mary the Mother of Jesus, believing her to be pregnant by divine means. He raised Jesus as his own child and taught him carpentry.

The Cathedral is a Grade 2 listed building and is the Cathedral for the Diocese of Menevia (covering Swansea and West Wales). It was the dream of Father Wulstan Richards who came to Greenhill in 1875. It was designed by Peter Paul Pugin, took two years to build, cost £10,000, and was opened on 25th November 1888. Before this the congregation met first in a small church (which is now a classroom for the affiliated school) and then in a bigger hall (which is now used for dinning and PE by the schools).

Outside the Cathedral entrance a War Memorial in the form of a Celtic Cross stands 18 feet high. It was unveiled in 1919.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, we would just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
