Geocache Description:

A micro cache in a micro park

Mission San Jose Bicentennial Park is located right next to one of the 21 Spanish Missions in California. The mission was founded in 1797 and was the 14th to be built. The original church was destroyed by earthquake in 1868. In 1982, reconstruction of the church began. Today, you can tour the museum by going through the gift shop, and walk around the cemetery at the back.

This micro park - about 8000 square feet - opened near the end of 2008. See the platform that looks strangely like a stage? It will feature a 30 foot long sculpture that will depict significant historical images of Mission San Jose, if the city ever manages to get funding for it. For now, you will have to check the city of Fremont's web site to see what the sculpture might look like some day.

The cache is a small tin with a slide top, about half the size of a key holder. I had initially constructed another cache container for this site, but to my disgust my original chosen point of attachment is not magnetic. There is no need to step off the paved area or disturb shrubbery for this one. Please bring your own writing instrument.

If you have some time, do check out the Mission San Jose museum (open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and stroll through the grounds.

Special thanks to Krypton for his patience and Walruz for editing his cache listing to get this one published.

Congratulations to seanatron on his first FTF!
