The Hopkins Fire Department was organized in 1893 after a devastating fire brought to light the need for public fire protection. In 1989, the Hopkins Fire Department was voted State of Minnesota Fire Department of the Year.
Hopkins has always had a core business district, and in the center of that early business district was Hopkins City Hall at 8th Ave N and Main street. Completed in 1912, it housed the city's police and jail in the rear portions, and city offices, library and meeting room upstairs. The fire station was on the main level, and the firefighters used horse drawn rigs. The building was remodeled in 1940 to accommodate more fire trucks.
That fire station was torn down in 1965 after a new City Hall, Police Station and Fire Station were built at 1010 1st St S. In 2004, a new Fire Station was built on 17th Ave. The Police Department was expanded and remodeled in 2005.
The Hopkins Fire Department responds to all fires, hazardous materials, special hazards and special rescue incidents in Hopkins.
Its EMS (Emergency Medical Services) program supports the Police Department in responding to medical emergencies.
As part of fire prevention, the Fire Department also enforces the fire code, inspects all new construction for safety and provides one of the most progressive and highly recognized fire prevention and education programs in the state.
The Hopkins Fire Department consists of 40 active volunteer firefighters.
Now you ask me what does this have to do with a cache in a Blaine Open Public Space? Nothing I had a old fire department sticker that I attached to the cache, hence the name of the cache, Hopkins Fire Department.
The cache you are seeking is a metal box that is slightly smaller then an ammo can filled with the usual swag type items, and please try to trade up when ever possible. This cache is in a Blaine Open Space. Certain times of the year it can be a nice place to hike or snowshoe. It is definitely not your typical P&G. Please respect the private property around the nice little piece of public land.
