Wellamo Cache Raid 2009
High and Low.
This cache was created for the Wellamo Cache Raid 2009. On
April18th 2009 more than twenty cachers in the Päijänne Tavastia
area decided to join forces and create a bunch of caches
simultaneously to bring delight and despair to our fellow cachers.
Much of the landscape features in all of the Päijänne Tavastia
region are dominated by ridges, kettles and lakes formed by the
last ice age. A kettle is a glacial landform formed during the
melting phase of the glacier as huge blocks of ice got buried
inside the debris carried by the meltwater. When the blocks
eventually melted, deep pits with exceptionally steep slopes were
formed. Orienteers throughout the country have come to love and
hate the kettle-infested forests of this region. This cache gives
you an opportunity to enjoy the physical challenge of the kettle by
making you climb up and down these lovely curiosities of nature. It
also rewards you with a rather nice view in the end.

Päijät-Hämäläistä kätköilijää yhdistivät voimansa ja julkaisivat
kertaheitolla läjän kätköjä kanssakätköilijöitä ihastuttamaan ja
vihastuttamaan.
Suurta osa Päijät-Hämeen maastonmuodoista hallitsevat harjut, supat
ja järvet, jotka ovat viime jääkauden aikaansaannoksia. Suppa on
jääkauden aikainen maaston piirre, joka on muodostunut kun jäätikön
sulamisvaiheessa valtavia jäälohkareita peittyi sulamisvesien
kuljettaman maa-aineksen alle. Kun lohkareet lopulta sulivat,
jäljelle jäi poikkeuksellisen jyrkkäreunaisia suuria kuoppia.
Suunnistajat kautta Suomen ovat oppineet rakastamaan ja vihaamaan
tämän alueen supikoita. Tämä kätkö tarjoaa nyt sinullekin
mahdollisuuden nauttia supan tuomasta fyysisestä haasteesta
laittamalla sinut kiipeämään ylös ja alas näitä luonnon ihania
omituisuuksia. Lopussa sinut myös palkitaan kohtuullisen mukavalla
näköalalla.
