Geocache Description:

You don't have to climb down into the ravine to find the cache. Don't search for this at night because the steep drop-off. Container is small black metal pill fob (cylinder).

Located at Charman and Linn Park. Yes, this really IS a park. There's a babbling brook, tall trees, lush greenery, but it's not a great place to visit. It's a small triangle of land with a very steep drop down into a ravine. We put a cache here because the street names surrounding the park are intriguing. Why is there an Electric Street that's only 1 block long? It intersects with Charman Street. We think these streets got their names because there used to be a hotel called the Electric Hotel on the Charman Block in downtown Oregon City. In 1888, T.L. Charman became one of the founders of the Oregon City Electric Company. The first long distance transmission of electricity in the United States occurred between a hydro-electric plant at Willamette Falls and the city of Portland 14 miles away. The Hotel was named in honor of that feat. Here is a picture (from the University of Oregon Libraries - Special Collections and University Archives) that shows the hotel: http://boundless.uoregon.edu/u?/Bestof,564 The Electric Hotel used to be a nice place. Over time it allegedly became a whorehouse for the mill workers. The hotel is now gone.
