WARNING DANGER OF DEATH
DO NOT CROSS THE FENCE ANYWHERE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD ON YOUR WAY UP THE VALLEY
A quick drive by cache on the road up from Alwinton. Maybe on your way up or down the valley to find other caches that are located near by or just a drive out into the countryside. Watch out for the livestock that don’t seem to take any notice of the Rules of the Road or the Highway Code.
This is one of my favourite roads in Northumberland. There are some fantastic views all along this road especially as you get higher up, even in the winter. Although you have to keep an eye out in winter, it wouldn’t do to get stuck on this road in a heavy snow fall.
Take time to read the information board at the parking place, especially the warnings about picking things up. Also don’t go off too far from the road if you don’t have the right equipment, lots of people have had to be rescued because they’ve walked too far up the hills not properly prepared and got caught out by a sudden worsening in the weather.
I hope you enjoy the views and the area as much as I do and on the way back drop in at the Rose and Crown, they serve good bear and if you get there at the right time the foods good too.
