Geocache Description:

This is the secound spirt quest in the Acadian area thanks to Zsandmann for inspiring me to place this one when I found his like this.

1869 – 1905

On this site was the first of this city’s three Masonic cemeteries and served Masons and Protestants alike. It has been virtually unused since 1905 although the latest tombstone reads 1954. The earliest recorded death was in 1868. A.C. Maxwell donated this land to Abbeville Lodge No. 192 F. & A.M. in 1869. The first Master of the lodge Dr. W.D White was buried here as were several of his children. The cemetery was restored in 1997 by volunteers under the auspices of the City of Abbeville who owns this sacred soil.

This cache is located near the Old Masonic Cemetery, please respect the graves, and please no night caching.
The Cache is Located At The Above Coordinates:
There is an additional logging requirement (ALR) for this cache. In order to claim a smiley for this cache, please sign the log AND A) take a picture of a tombstone OR B) Post the full text from a tombstone. Pictures are preferred, but I understand everyone doesn't carry a camera.
This cache is part of the "Spirit Quest" series, which covers over five states, and was inspired by the cacher SixDogTeam. The purpose of the series is to bring people to older cemeteries for history and remembrance. Please be respectful of the graves. The cache is not located near the graves and you do not need to disturb any headstones or decorations to find it.

I have another cache not far from here in a park named after one of the guys buried here.

GODCHAUX, Gustave, born October 17, 1853, in Franklin, La., died October 12, 1908. Came to Abbeville in 1875. Married Kate Area on March 13, 1879. Conducted several businesses, including a general merchandise store, a lumber yard, and a brick manufacturing company. He was president of the Abbeville Investment Co. that had the current Bank of Abbeville & Trust Co. building constructed in 1903. Was a member of the Police Jury, and of the School Board. Gus and son, Frank Godchaux, Sr. were instrumental in the formation and erection of Abbeville's first rice mills and began a dynasty that has culminated in the establishment of Riviana Foods, Inc., an international company.

If you really want to impress me find the new Masonic Cemetery which I will be placing another cache near soon and also take a picture of the sign that has the current name of new cemetery.
