XX gs. 20. Gados ozola galotne iesperis zibens. Laika no 1958. Lidz 1990. Gadam noluzuši vairaki lieli žuburi, stumbra izveidojies milzigs dobums. Palikusi vairs tikai neliela vainaga dala.

ENG. The Kaive Ancient oak is a unique and meaningful natural, historical and cultural monument in Latvia. The Kaive Oak is the 11th largest oak (in diameter) in Europe. It is the largest oak in the Baltics and Eastern Europe.The tree is 10.2 metres in diameter that means that by joining hands, it would take approximately nine adults to surround the tree. The age of the tree isn’t completely agreed upon, but the estimate is that it is from 800-1000 years old.
In the 1920’s, the top of the tree was struck by lightening and between 1958 and 1990 the oak lost several of its larger limbs, leaving a hefty hole in the main trunk of the tree. Today, only a few limbs with leaves remain.
