On Memorial Day, May 31, 1999, Niles dedicated the waterfall
at
Touhy and Milwaukee Avenues as an appropriate monument in memory
of
those Niles residents who served our country so nobly.
At the ceremony, the American flag and the POW/MIA flag were
raised
for the first time and have been permanently displayed at
this
memorial site. A ceremony is held every Memorial Day and
Veterans
Day in memory of those residents who served our country in
the
armed forces.
Practically every weekend during the summertime wedding
parties
can be seen using this elegant location as a background to
preserve
their memories. During the holiday season the fountain turns into
a
wonderful holiday display.
Also, Abe Lincoln can be seen sitting and taking in the
view
during summer. Great photo opportunity!
For parking, turn west on Newark (1 block of south of Touhy)
and
follow the signs CAREFULLY. The parking lot is right next to
the
fountain but it is a circuitous route getting there.
There can be lots of muggles on weekends, especially during
summer. Beware of the bus stop right nearby. Good night time
cache.
