Basaltkuppen formen konnte.

Fragen
an meine email-Adresse (siehe mein Profil).
eventuellen Problemen...;)
English Version:
The block sea at the “Schafstein”
The volcanic formations of the Cenozoic era with their hard basalt
bodies form today the summits of the “Rhön”.
During the Cenozoic era, approximately 15 million years ago, the
ascending magma percolated between the older limestones of the
shell limestone and the sandstones of the new red sandstone ; both
are geological units, which were formed during the Mesozoic.
The processes of decomposition and degradation of soft rocks led in
the youngest geological era, the Quaternary of the Cenozoic era, to
the fact that, that today's landscape of the Rhön with its typical
basalt summits could be formed.
Conditional to the landscape history, but in particular because of
the strong decomposition resistance of the volcanic rocks, scores
of worth seeing geotopes are nowadays sustained in the area of the
Rhön. One of the most beautiful ones is this block sea of the 832 m
high Schafstein. This is the largest block sea of the Rhön and
covers a wide, partially steeply shelving basalt block seas with
innumerable basalt blocks nearly completely without vegetation the
Schafstein and has an expansion of approximately 3.6
hectares.
Genesis
The block streams at the Schafstein developed during the cold stage
in the Cenozoic era (older Quaternary). To this time the Rhön was
in the permafrost zone, between the glaciated areas of Northern
Europe and the alps. Because of the dominate extreme climate
conditions at that time, rock blocks of the basalt summit along
rock gaps blew off and accumulated on a block sea within the
hillside area of the summit. So, the block sea does not only cover
its own basalt bodies, but also areas whose underground is
structured from other rocks.
To log the Cache please send the answer of the following
questions to my e-mail address (check my profile).
On which hillside is the largest part of the block sea arranged
(direction)?
Consider how it could be, that those basalt chunks
“walked” nearly to the valley till today!?
