St
Josephs
The picture is not of
the new(ish) church but of the old one in Redhill town centre that
was demolished in the 1980’s.
The parish of St Joseph's has been in Redhill since the 1850s. The
first church dedicated to St Joseph was built on land adjacent to
the branch line through Guildford to Reading at the junction of the
High Street and Chapel Road. I’ve always wondered why I could find
Chapel Road but no church. In 1898 a new church was built on the
same site. By 1978 the church had become surrounded by other
buildings and, being built before the advent of the motor car, had
no car park or easy access.
After much deliberation the church was demolished, the land sold
and a new church built on Ladbroke Road. On 10th June 1988 the new
(current) church was officially opened and consecrated.
You can park near the above coordinates or in any of the side
streets.
To get the coordinates for GZ you will need to visit the new church
to grab a few numbers which are also at the coordinates shown
above, you are looking for a something on the wall by a water
feature.
A = Number of letters in Saints Christian name
B = Total of numbers in line 3 (disregard 0s)
C = Day of Month
D = First number of year
E = Number of letters in last line
F = Number of vowels in first line
Now use the values above to do some simple sums to find the
coordinates for the cache which is hidden less than 150m away (as
the crow flies) more like 450m on foot unless you know a shortcut
across the railway line and allotments (don't try, please):
N51 14. ( F – D ) ( E - A ) ( D x C ) W000 09. ( C + D ) (( B /
D ) + B ) (( E / D) + 1 )
You are looking for a magnetic 35mm film canister, containing log
book but no pencil.
If any body would
like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you
could let SADEXPLORATION know first so he can keep track of the
Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
