Geocache Description:

A straightforward micro cache situated on the Boreham Road, to the east side of Warminster town. You are seeking a micro containing log and pencil only. It is possible to park alongside the cache location but it would be best avoided at school opening and closing times. Also,a little stealth may be needed as there are private dwellings opposite.

St John’s church, designed by G.E. Street, was completed in 1865. The church is in the Early English style with a nave and north aisle, a chancel, with a north aisle for the organ, a vestry, south porch and bell cote. A school was also built. At first this was a rural parish with only 78 houses and a population of 302 which was taken out of the parish of Christ Church. The church interior has illustrations of scriptural scenes on the wall, designed by C.E. Ponting and painted by J. Powell of Whitefriars before the First World War. In 1925 a baptistry was added by Mrs Rule, the daughter of Mr Temple. It is a small Victorian church with many attractive features including some outstanding beautiful opus sectile mosaics. St John’s was part of the Parish of Warminster for the first ninety years of its life. In 1955 it became part of the existing parish of Bishopstrow, St John’s is situated at the east end of this market town.

If any body would like to expand to this series please do, we would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
