Geocache Description:

Easy city cache near the new central railway station of Vienna.
This place is an important part of the visiting program for
tourists.

You can reach the cache area by public transport (train, U1 to "Südtirolerplatz", Tram O, 18 or D to "Südbahnhof"). The starting point is very close to this station.

The area (around Belvedere Castle) is open for the public every day at least from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (depending on the season, see notice at the entrance!). More information about the castle can be found at www.belvedere.at.

Dogs are not allowed. The trail is most of its length a tarmac or a gravel walk. Length: short, Difference in height: marginal

Stage 1: The Starting Point
N1 = 48° 11.x1' where x1 = 363
E1 = 016° 22.y1' where y1 = 875
This stage will give you a first impression of the palace garden. Count the big crowns on top of the wall and gates in front of you. The result is A.

Stage 2: The VIP
N2 = 48° 11.x2' where x2 = x1 + A * 23 + 1
E2 = 016° 22.y2' where y2 = y1 + A * 7
A very famous person died here. Find the last name of the creator of the big plate (on its right side), count its letters and call the result B.

As the plate is not accessible at the moment, the name is NEUMANN

Stage 3: Greek Sphinx
N3 = 48° 11.x3' where x3 = x2 + B * 4 + 1
E3 = 016° 22.y3' where y3 = y2 - B * 8
Watch out! Dangerous creatures partly female, partly lion and eagle are guarding the garden. Be brave, and visit the six of them sitting close to you with stretched front legs.
Some of them have more ringlike clasps in their hair than the other four. How many clasps can you see on one of these sphinxes? The result will be C.

Stage 4: Sparkling Water
N4 = 48° 11.x4' where x4 = x3 + C * C * 5 + C * 3 - 2
E4 = 016° 22.y4' where y4 = y3 - C * 6 - 1
Close to you there are two fountains. How many human feet do the creatures in their center have altogether (beware of hooves and fins)? The result is D.

Stage 5: Calendar
N5 = 48° 11.x5' where x5 = x4 + D * 4 + 4
E5 = 016° 22.y5' where y5 = y4 + D * 7 - 3
Add the values of the months where harvested fruit can be seen (in the hands of the figures). The result is E.

Stage 6: Muses
N6 = 48° 11.x6' where x6 = x5 + 4 * E + 1
E6 = 016° 22.y6' where y6 = y5 - 3 * E - 3
Nearby musical muses can be seen. How many of them play string instruments? The result is F.

Stage 7: The Cache
N7 = 48° 11.x7' where x7 = x6 - A * E + C * D - 1
E7 = 016° 22.y7' where y7 = y6 + A * B - C * D - F * F

Good Luck!

The cache (a film canister) contains:
  • cachenote (please don't remove)
