2 Rivers Meet Traditional Geocache
TeamSwampy: Due to FT wanting money to enter the area, and that I haven't been able to locate an ammo can to replace this cache, I have decided to archive it. Thanks to all those that have taken the time (and money) to find this cache.

A reasonable length ground walk under the Tahune Air Walk.
This cache is located near the confluence of the Huon and the Picton Rivers. There is a circuit track with 2 suspension bridges to cross and on the southern side of the river, there is the remains of a old hut, 2 vantage points to look along the river and the emergency helicopter landing pad.
To get to the cache, go to the Tahune Airwalk. Follow the signs from the Visitor Centre across the concrete bridge, turn left and pick up the gravel path heading west. At a couple points you will cross under the Airwalk itself, continuing along beside the Huon River.
The track undulates slighty until you reach the first suspension bridge, cross that and follow the track to the left until you pass the second suspension bridge.
The cache is located off the track in a tree about 1.8m above the ground, approximately 6m from the track, on the Huon River side of the tree. There is a very large tree right on the track and a tall but dead tree behind it. The top is missing from the dead tree. The cache is in the dead tree. Please be careful accessing this cache as there is a danger of making a geotrail. I'd suggest going around the back of the big tree.
Once you have found the cache and returned to the track, you can continue to the end of the track and look out from the viewing platform (not that good, a better place is at location 5.)
Return to the bridge and cross over, turning left and follow the vehicular track. From this track, there are a couple of good locations that you can take in on your return to the visitor centre.
The first is location 6, where there is the remains of an old hut with an interpretive picture. this is said to have been McPartlan Cottage, the McPartlan of the McPartlan Pass fame.
The next is location 5, which takes you down to the river and gives good views up both rivers and also downstream. There is another vantage point just upstream from the concrete bridge accessible from the main trail.
All up the walk is about 3km and stopping to take photos and placing the cache took about 1h 45mins, but you could do it in about 1 hour.
GPS reception was good at the time of placement.
Cache is a 1l sistema and when place contained Jack Jack Incredible, a tennis ball, 3 mondos, party poppers, bounce ball, TB, log and pen.
This area is, apparently, a part of the Air Walk facility and as such, there is an entrance fee to the area. When I placed the cache, I was following the instructions in the book "More Family Walks Around Hobart" which instructed people that the fee was only for the Air Walk itself. FT now require payment and have rangers checking visitor passes.
I am leaving this cache here as a bonus for those cachers who do come to do the Air Walk. The walks to these 2 caches are well worth doing, even if you have to pay for it. Cost as at 16 Jan 2011 was $24 for an adult.
