Geocache Description:

Situated near Wellington's floating tugboat cafe/restaurant in Oriental Bay. Easily accessible log-only micro-cache. Restored 2/10/2010 following refurbishment of the site.

Boat Cafe (previously Parade Cafe) is a floating cafe/restaurant, situated in a lagoon looking over the Wellington city lights and harbour.
Recommended for looking at and photographing and they do great coffees, cakes, lunches and dinners.

Parade Cafe previously operated in an old building across the road, but moved into the tugboat in September 2010 following demolition of their building, taking over from the less favoured Tugboat on the Bay restaurant.

Situated in Oriental Bay, Wellington’s most expensive real estate, and is only a 15 minute stroll down the wharf from the most expensive shopping (Lambton Quay). There are several caches along the waterfront – why not find them on your way. In particular, take the kids on a light stroll to discover Bronzed in Oriental Bay (GC1KH22), an easy multi-cache all within 750 m along the parade.

Bring your swimming gear for a swim at the adjacent Freyberg pool or Oriental Bay beach, and stop to let the kids play on the playground equipment.

The tugboat was formerly the Auckland Harbour Board tug AUCKLANDER. Renamed TAPUHI II, the 29-year-old AUCKLANDER began its new career as Wellington's "Tugboat on the Bay" in early 1987.

Oriental Bay beach is a man-made beach originally created from the ballast of sailing ships and is now maintained by the city council who recently brought in barges of golden sand from Golden Bay (top of the South Island) to enhance its appearance. (For the annual beach volleyball tournament last year they even brought in truckloads of fine grey sand so the players would have a nice soft surface. After the competition the grey sand was taken away again!)

A log-only micro-cache. Contains logbook only - bring your own pencil. Muggles abound in this area, so you will need to be careful.

FTF honours go to bjtrekker.
