Geocache Description:

Five-ninety Fun. Another section of old abandoned road to explore. Good views of a small beck and lovely woods. You may also see some beautiful 'toffee' cows. A short, scenic diversion.

In the old days a winding lane linked High Newton to Newby Bridge.  It went via Canny Hill to avoid the marsh and bog at the end of Windermere.  Eventually a new straight road was built along a causeway across the bog.

This old section is SE of the Newby Bridge garage, on the east side of the road.  One end is opposite the Canny Hill turning, the other is on the Staveley-in-Cartmel lane.  It has been abandoned for quite a while now and is a bit overgrown in places.  The farmers keep it passable as access to their fields, so it is usually driveable with care.  Watch out for potholes at the SE end.

The cache is a small L&L.  The co-ordinates should be ok but to help you (well, those that read the cache page!) it's on the west side of the road.  You can park near it in a slightly wider section.
Please rehide well.

This part of the lane is nicely open giving a pleasant view over fields to Grubbins Wood.  Toffee cows can sometimes be found at the west end.  A footpath crosses the lane and good walks can be had in the forest above the lane - Chapel House.
