| HISTORIE: |
| Postavena byla 1550-1577 pred západním prucelím kostela svatého Mikuláše. Když 1547 prijala mestská rada rozhodnutí o její stavbe, zacaly prípravné práce vcetne stržení nekolika domu. Vedením stavby byl poveren italský stavitel Hans Spatz. Do zásoby byl lámán kámen v mestském lomu u Ohrazení a od 1549 se kopala základová jáma. Pro složité hydrogeologické pomery byly pred zdením základu do podloží zaráženy dubové piloty. Po položení základního kamene (1550) zacalo (1551) zdení nadzemní cásti veže z pravidelne pritesaných kvádru. Rozestavenou vež prevzal v roce 1555 nový stavitel Lorenc, který dílo dovedl minimálne do úrovne prvního poschodí. Od 1565 vedl stavbu V. Vogarelli. Ten roku 1575 vež dostavel a dal jí konecnou podobu. |

| HISTORY: |
Tower was built in 1550-1577 in front of west frontage of the St. Nicola's church. Prevocational working (including demolition of several houses) started in 1547 when the town council confirmed the building. Builder Hans Spatz was charged with supervision of the building. The building material, rock, was quarried near village Ohrazeni.
Excavation of the tower basement began in 1549. However, the complicated groundwater condition forced placing the oak stilts into the tower basement. The foundation stone was placed in 1550 and in 1551 the building in symmetrical worked blocks of the tower over ground part started.
The partially built tower was undertaken by builder Lorenc, who erected the tower up to the first floor. In 1565 the unfinished tower was undertaken by V. Vogarelli. He finished the tower and gave to the tower the final appearance. |

| Vež je založená na ctvercovém pudorysu o hrane 11,6m. Dosahuje výšky 71,9m a je rozdelena do devíti podlaží. Šesté a sedmé podlaží nesou zvony; nejvetší z peti zvonu je Bumerin(1723) o hmotnosti témer 3,5 tuny. Vznikl prelitím asi o tunu težšího jmenovce z roku 1507, puvodne visícího v kostele svatého Mikuláše. Dále je ve veži zvon Marta (1723) a nejmladším je Budvar (1995). Další dva zvony jsou zavešeny ješte v lucerne báne. V devátém podlaží mela byt rodina vežného. Ten dbal na bežnou údržbu veže, hlásil pohyby vojsk a požáry, dával znamení o predpokládaném pocasí. Spolu s pomocníky mel na starosti hlášení o case. K jeho merení sloužily hodiny, instalované poprvé 1606. |

The tower has the square ground plan with edge of length 11.6m. With nine floors, the tower is 71.9m high. Three bells are located on the 6th and 7th floor. The biggest one is Bummerin (1723) with weight 3.5t (tonnes). The next two, younger bells are Marta (1723) and Budvar (1995). Remaining two bells are placed in the cupola.
On the 9th floor there was a flat for a tower caretaker family. The caretaker took care of the tower, notified armed force movements, fires, and forecast weather. He also announced time measured by the tower clock, installed in 1606 |
