Cesvaines novada jau dzelzs laikmeta atradas senlatviešu pils.1209.g. Cesvaines novadu pievienoja Rigas biskapijai un te uzcela arhibiskapa mura pili, pie kuras izveidojas pilsetina. Livonijas kara laika tas tika nopostitas. Kopš 1815.g. Cesvaine piedereja Vulfu dzimtai.
Cesvaines medibu pils celta no 1893.-1896. gadam pec ta laika prominento Berlines arhitektu Hansa Grisebaha un Augusta Georga Dinklages projekta. Cesvaines pils ir spilgts eklektisma paraugs, kas apvieno gotikas, romanikas un jugendstila elementus. Eka ir divstavu, vienadmalu U- veida, ar valeju pagalmu un galveno ieeju dienvidu puse, ar monumentalu portalu un rampu piebraukšanai. Kreisa sparna gala zelmeni rota Vulfu dzimtas simbols – vilka figura. Pils celtnieciba tas ipašniekam Adolfam fon Vulfam izmaksaja tris miljonus zelta rublu. Pils celtniecibas laika apkartnes saimniekiem bijis jaatved uz Cesvaini noteikts skaits laukakmenu. Tos apstradajuši Latgales krievu amatnieki. Ar maziem amurišiem izklaušinajuši akmenus un pec skanas noteikuši, kura vieta milzenis parškelams. No gaiši peleka lidz sarkanajam – tada ir akmens un ekas krasu gamma. Barons fon Vulfs bijis tiem laikiem progresivs, moderns cilveks. Vinš Vidzeme bijis otrais cilveks (pec paša gubernatora), kurš iegadajies automašinu. Pili buvejot, ierikota suknu stacija ar interesantu "parikti" udens suknešanai, kas butu jarestaure. Blakus tai atrodas astonsturu tejas naminš, kadi tolaik greznojuši daudzus muižas parkus. 1905. gada revolucijas laika izpostita pils iedzive – mebeles, trauki, greznuma priekšmeti. Saglabajies viens vienigs skapis, kuram tagad vairak neka simts gadu.
Pils kreisais sparns bijis ta saucamais kungu gals – barona darba telpas, vannas istaba, gulamtelpa, kuras tagad parvertušas par skolenu klasem. Tepat ari unikalais seifs ar 20 centimetrus biezam metala durvim, aiz kuram glabati barona medibu ieroci, bet padomju gados – civilas aizsardzibas macibam domatie automati. Pils videja dala izmantota viesu uznemšanai un izklaidei, bet ekas labais sparns, kas buvets šauraks un ne tik grezns, bijis atvelets kalpu galam.
Kopš 1919.gada pili ierikota skola. Ugunsgreks 2002.gada 5.decembri nopostija pils jumtu. 2003. gada atjaunots jumts pils kreisajam sparnam. 2006.gada tika atjaunots pils tornis. Atjaunoshanas darbi joprojam rit pilna spara un kave tos tikai viens: naudas trukums! Lai Sapnu pils titula ipašniece atgutu kadreizejo spožumu, nepieciešami vairaki miljoni latu.

[ENG] There have been Latvian castle in Cesvaine district since Iron Age. On 1209th Cesvaine district was added to the Riga diocese and archbishops stone castle was built and town formed nearby. They were destroyed during Livonian war. Since 1815th Cesvaine was the property of Wolf’s family.
Cesvaine hunting castle was built from 1893rd to 1896th according to the project of Hans Griselbah and George Dinklage. Cesvaine castle is a great example of Eclectics that unites elements of Gothic, Romanesque and Art Nouveau. Building itself consists of two flours, U- formed with open courtyard and main entrance on South, with monumental portal and ramp. On left aisle you can find sward with decoration of Wolf’s family- statue of wolf. Castle cost 3 million golden rubles to it’s owner- Adolf fon Wolf. To build the castle quite a lot of boulders had to be carried to the castle. They were processed by Latgalian Russian craftsmen. With little hammers they examined them to detect were to collapse the stones by sound. Baron fon Wolf was very progressive man for these times. He was second man in Vidzeme district who bought a car (after governor itself). There was interesting tool for water pumping in castle that needs to be renovated. Nearby you can find octagonical Tea house. During revolution on 1905th inside of the building was destroyed- furniture, dishes, decorative tools. Only one cupboard is left that is more than hundred years old by now.
Left aisle have been called kings aisle- there were baron’s cabinet, bathroom, bedroom that now have been transformed into classrooms. There are also unique safe with doors of thickness 20 cm, made of metal, where hunting weapons were stored. During Soviet times- automates meant for lessons of the civil defense. Middle part was used for entertainment and as a guest room but right aisle that was built narrower and not so decorative was meant to the servants.
Since 1919 castle have been used as a school. On December 5, 2002 fire destroyed the roof of castle and on 2003 roof was restored to the left aisle. On 2006 tower of the castle was restored. Restauration is still not complete and there is only one obstacle- lack of money. Several million lats are required to restore Dream castle its past magnificence.
