Street Series -- Tower Road is part of a series giving the origins of Street names in Halifax city.
In the 1790's,a rough and rural road was trod by troops marching to and from the sea batteries at Point Pleasant.
In the spring of 1796 the fear of a French naval attack spurred the commander of the garrison, Prince Edward,to order the immediate construction of a stone defence tower. ..........Also daring and highly innovative was the round shape of the stone fort, which was the first of many martello towers to be built as coastal defenses throughout the British Empire.
Today , Tower Road wends its way through residential that spans the decades from the Victorian to the modern era..........leads into Point Pleasant Park and the Martello Tower {Elizabeth Pacey}
The cache like the others in this series is out in open and will require stealth.
