År 1533 drabbades staden av en omfattande brand som lade större delen av den i aska. Eftersom Gustav Vasa ville grunda en ny stad vid "Huffudnaes", den plats där senare Vänersborg skulle anläggas, påbjöd han 1560 att alla invånare flytta dit, och att ingen köpenskap skulle tillåtas i Lidköping. Flyttningen blev ej av utan staden återuppbyggdes och livet fortsatte på handelsplatsen vid Lidans utlopp.
Limtorget består utav många gamla hus, här finns även de gamla tullportsstenarna, ett tryckerimuseum och mysigt café. På varje hus finns en lite historik.
Ingår i en serie cachar som finns utlagda i Lidköpings kommun.

In 1533, the city was hit by a major fire, that put most of it in ashes. As Gustav Vasa wanted to found a new town at "Huffudnaes", the place where Vänersborg later was built, he decreed in 1560 that all residents would move there instead, and that no trading would be allowed in Lidköping. However the city of Lidköping was rebuilt and life went on.
Limtorget consists of many old houses that survied they fire. You can find a printing museum, a very nice cafe and more here. At the wall of some houses, you can read a bit of history about them.
